How are rates set?
What makes the exchange rate go up and down and sets? Thank you.
Nobody makes them – the price to be decided on supply and demand. Its the same as nothing – if everyone is selling too many eggs and eggs for sale, the price falls and vice versa. The exchange rate fluctuation is simply the rise and fall in the value of one currency against another. Exchange rates fluctuate every second, and these movements are generally caused by four things. Economic Data, Data policy, natural disasters, acts of war. A good example is last week when the Fed announced 1.2 trillion dollars would be pumped into the economy. Investors think that the creation of new money will devalue the dollar, so that investors moved funds dollars into euro, the dollar was weaker (less demand) and the euro became stronger (more demand). The net result is the Sterling exchange rates the dollar rose, and the euro fell.
